There may have been console ports of some of these games, but I was focusing on PC-based games. This includes Apple, Commodore, DOS-based PCs, etc.
1980s: - Bard's Tale Series
- Sierra Games [King's Quest III, Space Quest II/III, Leisure Suit Larry]
- Archon
- Oregon Trail
1990s: - Master of Orion I/II
- X-COM: Enemy Unknown
- Diablo
- Starcraft: Brood War
- X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter
- Fallout
- Lands of Lore
- Various BBS MUDs
2000s: - Diablo II
- World of Warcraft [Vanilla thru Wrath of the Lich King]
- Deus Ex
- Bioshock
2010s: - Starcraft II Series
- XCOM 2: War of the Chosen
- Organ Trail
Many others in the 2010s look fun to play, but I'm running an old system (circa 2007) which doesn't meet system requirements. I might finally bite the bullet and build a new desktop this year (sans RGB lighting and custom liquid cooling).

I don't do much gaming anymore, much less videogaming, and much more less than that, PC gaming. But I did like "Fate" when I found it a number of years back, so much that I bought it. I like the little touches they put on it like fishing (and getting random, sometimes seriously badass items in the fish), and being able to feed your animal companion different fish to change it into different stuff.

The only three PC games that I ever truly enjoyed were Gateway to Apshai (1983), Betrayal at Krondor (1993), and Ultima Online: Renaissance (2000). Everything else was a joyless slog that felt like wasted money.

They also fixed the bug (an optional story mission) that crashed the original game, of course, so now you can play the WHOLE thing!

...Betrayal at Krondor (1993)... Everything else was a joyless slog that felt like wasted money. Hmmm... Sir, I've played BaK (several times), and the three thousand spacebar press march from Yabon to Krondor and then back around the long way with a sight-seeing tour of Sar-Sargoth may not have been a joyless slog, but I'd certainly describe it as 'slog-like'. Perhaps were I in a forgiving mood, 'slog adjacent'. I would love for this to be ported over to and rebuilt in ES:Skyrim... My favs? (games I've played all the way to the 'end' more than once) Arx Fatalis‡; Oregon Trail and Organ Trail‡; Wasteland‡ˆ; Fallout 1‡, 2, and F:BoS‡; BaK‡; Elder Scrolls 1-5 (5‡); MoM‡; MoO‡ 1-4; Civ 1-5 (4‡, 5‡); Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri‡ & Civilization: Beyond Earth; King of Dragon Pass‡; UFO: Enemy Unknown‡, X-COM 2, 3‡, & 4 (also UFO: Extraterrestrials; Xenonauts; UFO: Alien Invasion); Dungeon Keeper‡ 1 & 2; Thief 1-3*; Deus Ex 1 & 2; Dishonored; Diablo 1 & 2; Dwarf Fortress‡; Rimworld‡; Rebuild 1, 2, 3‡; Mount and Blade‡; Nobunaga's Ambition 1 & 2 and one of the Nobunaga no Yabō (but I'm not sure which one); Shogun Total War‡ and Total War: Shogun 2‡; Jagged Alliance 1 & 2‡; Majesty‡; Syndicate‡ & Syndicate Wars‡; Minecraft‡; Warcraft 1-3; Starcraft and SC:BW; WoW†; Everquest† 1 & 2‡; Fallen Earth†‡. Hmmm, I detect a pattern emerging... * Yes, I actually enjoyed 3. Heresy I know (right up there with enjoying Fallout BoS). ‡ Actually installed on my computer, all of them played within the last ... hmmm, my graphics card blew out 3 years ago, so... aside from DF and King of Dragon Pass, I haven't played any of them in the last 3 years, but they've all been played within the last 10 years, at least once again, if not repeatedly. † MMOs. ˆ Perhaps especially telling that I'd rather play the keyboard clicking slog in all of it's unforgivable glory that is the original Wasteland (that is over 30 years old) than the sequel that was released five years ago.

I liked the Ultima Series a lot, as well as the Might and Magic series. One of my all time favorites, though, was Master of Magic.

I almost forgot, Shogo: Mobile Armor Division had enjoyable dialogue, in-mech, and on-foot experience.

One of my all time favorites, though, was Master of Magic. I always groaned when conquering sorcery nodes that contained several Sky Drakes. Or exploring non-nodes and being told "you found absolutely nothing." Aside from that, I enjoyed customizing your character with varied realm knowledge (book count) and retorts.

The 2010s should definitely include Witcher 3.

The 2010s should definitely include Witcher 3. It is on my short list to buy once I build a new machine capable of running it.

Zeus and Poseidon, Pharaoh and Cleopatra, Caesar III The various Jewel games and their clones Gold miner South Park: The Fractured But Hole South Park: The Stick of Truth Universe sandbox for the joys of throwing planets into each other and creating black holes from Earth sized planets. Neverwinter nights and Balder's Gate back in the day
