For lack of a dedicated section, I'm putting this here for anyone to share random food thoughts.
The apricots have been coming on here, so I have been obtaining the small, flavorful variety, Royal, that are too fragile to ship nationally. They bruise so easily but they make nice jams and tarts.
There's so much fruit here and it comes on so quickly. The bing cherries in the fridge need to be processed next. I'll probably pit some and make a pie or something. They're so dense and delicious.
Today, our apple tree was bent over onto the ground under the weight of the fruit. It's only 2 years since I planted it. We had to go hammer a stout stake into the ground and tie up the trunk and branches to support them. The apples look like they're going to be wonderful and not even wormy. Go figure. The lemons are burgeoning, too. The tomatoes went in late so they're just getting started. It'll be another month before they start producing in any quantity.
What summer fruits are you looking forward to?

Whoa! Don't everybody post at once.
Here's another one for you. What is your favorite storebought potato salad and why? I prefer Resers, but lately Safeway has been pushing it so I've had some of theirs which while not bad, ain't great. SW's is a tad too sweet. They probably dump a bunch of sugar in it or something. I'm sort of lazy but would be totally open if someone wanted to share a recipe for one: I'm interested in the classic mayo/mustard variety as well as the vinaigrette type.
In summer, I like a cold plate: sliced roast chicken, sliced tomatoes, and a big dollop of potato salad. Very tasty and satisfying. And no cooking.

Cherries are just coming on, here. They're a little on the late side by my reckoning.
Just the other week, I made a bunch of strawberry-rhubarb jam/preserve. No real recipe, but strawberries, rhubarb (which I scored free for the picking from some rando in town whose plant had gone bonkers, and she didn't want anything to do with it so she advertised on a local FB group), brown sugar, raisins and a packet or two of strawberry jello. I remember the raisins and jello being in a batch of this stuff that my mom made when I was a kid, and it was so good. Mine turned out quite decent.
Plums on our trees on the pasture hedgerow are hard, green, and about the size of an almond with its shell on. Those don't come on until fall, around September or so.

Anybody have much experience/recommendations for drinking yerba mate? I've had a few of the canned drinks and found I like both the taste and the stimulant effect. It feels like a clearer, calmer energy than espresso.
Speaking of coffee, in an effort to reduce my consumption and expense on buying iced coffee (I tend to blend the Stok cold-brew with Starbucks caramel espresso), I've been experimenting with making a coffee drink with about 3 parts cheapo dollar-store dried coffee to one part cold water and one part milk, adding some flavored stevia, then icing it. It's not half bad.

My dad's lemon tree is full of lemons. Can't wait for them to ripen. When they do, they're about as big as your average orange. I hate, hate, hate store bought potato salad. They either put mustard in it or sugar. Yuck. I slice mine up small and thin, boil till done, drain, then add salt, pepper, tony chacere's or paprika, mayo, finely chopped/mushed boiled eggs, finely diced onions and celery to it. Mix until evenly coated. Simple and good. But then, I hate mustard for the most part. Lately, I've been on an HEB turkey salad mix with cranberries and pecans. Now that's pretty tasty.
It's funny. I do say I hate mustard, but I have found there is one place in Luling Texas that makes the best BBQ sauce. It's a mustard/vinegar based sauce I think. It's one of the few exceptions to my 'I hate mustard' stance. God that stuff is good.
Here's a pic of it:

Proper potato salad does not contain mayonnaise, egg, or any other such nonsense. Proper potato salad has a vinegar-based dressing, and contains finely-diced onions and bacon.

Both of you are full of it! Potatoe salad has potatoes, sour cream, butter, cives, cheddar cheese, and a little salt and pepper...

That's a baked potato or a fully loaded baked potato soup. Totally different. But it does sound very good.
Never had anything like that. Sounds good though.

Three. Last time I had La Croix sparkling water was in Wisconsin 20 years ago. It came in a glass bottle. Now it's in cans and flavored. ugh. So much for millenials.
Potato salad. Made some of the regular stuff last night & it was a big hit at the pot luck today. (I read about 15 recipes before this attempt. One advocated 1/2 sour cream & 1/2 mayo, and that sounds great--will try it next time).
What I made had: Potatoes (4 lb cut into 1 inch chunks), mayo 1c, dijon mustard 1T, red wine vinegar 2t, salt (1t) sugar(2t), hard boiled eggs (4, w/cooked yolk mixed into the dressing), diced celery 1c & red onion 1/2 c.
I've made it in the past with vinaigrette. Both varieties have their virtues. A dear friend of mine once insisted that I had a potato deficiency. It was at Veselka one morning after being up all night clubbing. The potatoes restored me to life. Or could it have been the coffee? These things are hard to isolate some times.

That's a baked potato or a fully loaded baked potato soup. Totally different. But it does sound very good. The butter gave it away eh? Actually, leave out the butter, add a dab of brown mustard, and that's my "loaded baked" potatoe salad recipe. Because I don't mayo anymore. For potatoe soup, use the above (no mustard, though it'd probably be good as well) and add milk.

Like the bad donkey, I score zero as a millennial. I'm quite pleased with that, but can't really take credit for simply being born early enough to have been set in my ways by the time millennials were a thing.

Some people avoid mayo the way Pythagoras was rumored to have avoided beans. I have no doubt that mayo erodes the soul...
