Ran across this sort of digital graphic-novel telling of a guy who was a teenager in this Elan program that I hadn't heard of till now. The school really existed until relatively recently, and it sounds like a cultish, horrifying nightmare of a place. The whole saga is eye-opening about tendencies in human nature, and worth a read. My curiosity was piqued after seeing it on FB, so I did some research. It absolutely was a real place, with multiple locations in the U.S., and the horror stories are almost all exactly the same. Horrifying. It was finally shut down a few years ago after investigations from multiple agencies.
I'm no fan of kids in general, but holy shit, nobody deserves to be treated like that. Shit in there even goes against the guidelines for treating enemy prisoners. Probably because the basis of the program was apparently based on tactics developed in North Korea, and we know that government is absolutely filled with kind, caring souls. :/
