I was promised new asshattery, not tired old asshattery. Is it "Tired Old Asshattery" or "Asshatery 4ever!"
Very minor asshattery but at least it's new.
THIS THREAD. DoctorBadWolf, a frequent flyer on the asshatery plane, wants to give the fighter some more stuff. He wants to add to the fighting style list, so that each subclass of fighter can have something relating to their eventual theme in the fighting styles. OK, nothing asshatish there yet. H
For Eldritch Knight, he posits they need to have no spell at level 1 but still have something for their theme (which is a spell related theme).
People reply to his ideas, and because apparently they're not all just nodding complete agreement with everything he posted, we're off to the asshatery races with post #4. There, he immediately tells the only two people who had responded to them that they just didn't understand his initial post apparently as he thinks their replies are already covered in his post or not applicable (though they clearly are - they're just not "yes, we agree completely with you").
Then as people get into specifics, some issues with his Eldritch Knight suggestion start to creep in. Around post 8 people are saying they really do want more magic from the start. By post 11 people are mentioning adding attack cantrips at level 1, with agreement with that suggestion at post 12. DoctorBadWolf doesn't like it because it's too much. Post 18 we again have a suggestion again of 2 attack cantrips at level 1 and a first level spell. Thereafter a series of discussions happen about the potency of cantrips and if it's really more powerful than fighters normal attacks, etc., the point is the thread is firmly discussing attack cantrips at first level at this point. For a while, involving many posters.
Post 26, DoctorBadWolf says he still doesn't like cantrips at first level. It's "too much". People immediately disagree with him, with fair reasons. He disagrees back, etc..
Fenris-77 suggests some elemental damage instead, but not exactly the kind DoctorBadWolf (DBW) suggested, and he gets a "he world doesn't revolve around you you're not the only one in this thread with ideas " response from DBW.
Discussion drifts to a farmboy to hero narrative for the class, and DBW replies, "With respect, I do not care about nitpicking examples of zero to hero narratives. I’m not here to follow every possible rabbit hole of a debate that ever presents itself." So at this point we're pretty consistently getting nasty tone from DBW any time anyone doesn't just agree with what he wants for the thread.
People then say DBW's elemental damage idea is too weak. He doesn't care.
Around post 58 I chime in and again repeated I don't like his idea for EK though I agree with the premise they could use something, and suggest any one wizard cantrip not limited to attack cantrips.
DBW, apparently missing the distinction between "attack cantrip" and "any wizard cantrip", again disagrees, again comparing damage vs your sword. I then tell him hey man you missed it, I didn't mean attack cantrip I am saying any wizard cantrip, and suggest I might take something like minor illusion.
He disagrees, saying that's not a fighting style and the rational way to view fighting styles is to focus on combat. I explain he already drifted pretty far from the original concept of fighting styles to begin with since there is no fighting nor style involved with "your magic just adds more damage to your attacks". That's not like training to be better at dodging attacks, or training to be better with a sword and shield...it's just added damage from magic. And since they already have the "fighting" part of an Eldritch Knight but none of the "magic" part at level 1, this adds the "magic part". I finally explain how such wizard cantrips like minor illusion can have a good combat element to them with a link to a video explaining that.
He strongly disagrees, and now we get into the interesting asshatery, starting with post 71, "If you want to pursue an entirely different goal with variant feature options go for it, but it’s not what I’m doing here in this thread."
I disagree, explaining how just adding elemental damage isn't much of a fighting or style anyway. Now he's apparently pissed in post 80. "Nah. I’m done with this. The premise is what it is. Either engage with it, leave me alone, or get blocked."
By post 91 he's kinda rambling. We go back and forth, I try to find some room to agree with him but he's in full-on asshatery mode. "You’re either completely failing to read my post, or being dishonest" and "You’re either completely failing to read my post, or being dishonest"
And that is where Umbran jumps in, post 99, and tells him to knock this shit off.
Asshatery mostly done at that point as I choose to not jump back in that shit. Dude doesn't want to hear any changes from what he decided on at the beginning of the thread...OK then.
Pretty minor asshatery, but it's something!
