"Don't be a dick"? I thought that was the entire purpose of CM? Why would this one sub-forum be except from dickishness?

Because this subforum is a landing spot for refugees from a board that wasn't a cesspool of assholes. So we're importing some of that subculture along with the refugees hoping they at least hang out in here to talk comic talk, and maybe those with tough hides or a desensitized nature might migrate into the greater boards and breathe some life into it's shrinking population.

So, silly question...
But wasn’t there also a rule about weapons...?
Like everyone needing one?
Or was that less rule and more a custom?

With the weight of history even custom can become law...
Serious answer, it was the introduction thread and the Armoury arose as something fun to keep it going in the lean times between influxes of new members.

I sorta liked the "rules" of the old FIDOnet boards. IIRC there were two.
1. Don't be excessively annoying. 2. Don't be too easily annoyed.
Of course, there is a lot of interpretation there between the rules and the enforcement.
FWIW, I'm pretty much confident that nothing I personally am likely to post will violate any reasonable set of rules. But I'm also a weirdo that way. If other people want to call each other bastards or insult each other's dogs or spend an hour shouting profanity at the top of their lungs or whatever, I don't particularly mind. I'll just generally dismiss it as pointless.
On the other hand, if there's a contest to see how much profanity we can write without repeating ourselves, with, say, a committee judging the entries for quality, vocabulary, vitriol, and creativity, then I'd be fascinated with it and pleased to participate. The real problem with obscenity, IMO, is that people are just so darn repetitive. It has devolved from a form of discourse to a small set of fixed phrases, and that's a crime against creativity.

OT but I thought you might enjoy.
