Never read the source material, and my largest complaint is that it was only 8 episodes.
Really liked the beats this one hits. It's got really sharp edges, but the characters carry it.
What I liked: Really shows what immoral bastards with power are like, both on the human and the supe sides of things. Characters are strong and not one dimensional. I really like the ensemble of the boys, the chemistry is good between the characters and the actors. The effects are pretty good for a streaming series. The Netflix shows didn't appear to have half the budget for FX that some single episodes of The Boys did. The supes felt big because of this. The plot, while still incomplete, seems to hang together pretty well.
What's Okay: Why the boys follow Butcher seems pretty weak. There's a lot of fucking over by Butcher and not much displayed reason for the loyalty inspired. This is a bit meh. The camera work and scene framing is technically adequate and rarely good. This may be intentional, so as to tone down the supes even more.
What I Disliked: Really, that it's only 8 episodes.
As an aside, I really kinda get a feeling that the Black Noir character is pulling some serious Rorschach moves a la is in many scenes outside of costume. Not a lot of extras, though, so maybe not.

I'm looking forward to season 2.
Black Noir seems like one of those characters that has a 50% of being horribly mutilated under that mask and a 50% chance of being the evil mastermind we were already familiarized with.
The Deep is really really hot despite being a prick though. Not sure how his redemption arc is going to go.
And Speaking of prime series, I've been watching The Expanse and it's is pretty epic so far. just finished the first season.

Never read the source material... You can skip it. It really isn't that good. Unless you're one those slackwits that thinks Preacher (the comic) was brilliant, then it'll be bang up your alley. Ahahahahahaha. Good eye for the trope.

I really liked it, especially how all the characters are a bit more complex than you might expect.
I don't mind that it was just 8 episodes, because they were satisfying ones. The Marvel shows tended to have 1 or 2 more episodes than they had material for.

8 episodes was the right length. Don't want a show to drag. Looking forward to season 2. But the Boys seem rather ad hoc and poorly funded to be the government's only resource investigating the superheroes.

This is eventually better explained in the comics... but there are reasons* they don't have gobs of resources at their disposal. * And those reasons are either extremely stupid or brilliant depending on how much leeway you want to give Garth Ennis in your headcanon.

To be honest my impression was that he was actually a freelancer that used to be FBI or something, but was now doing things on his own. But of course that would raise the question what his day job is so he can afford anything.
I guess it's more like with The X-Files, except he doesn't even get a Dana Scully, just enough funding to pay the Lone Gunmen as consultant.

I suspect he doesn't have a day job - my impression is that he's nearly broke and hellbent on revenge. he problably does a bit of wheeling and dealing and scamming just to get his hot pockets for food.

Either that, or that's the most blatant product placement I've ever seen in a tv series.

I'm up to episode 4, so far I'm liking the changes. Hughie's Dad is more of the look Huey should have had (a young Simona Peg would have been perfect), but otherwise I'm down with the other changes. Clearly still waiting for The Female to show up. Why the boys follow Butcher seems pretty weak. There's a lot of fucking over by Butcher and not much displayed reason for the loyalty inspired. This is a bit meh. They've all (except for Hughie) worked together before. Frenchie is just along for the violence (and potential payday, but as he was already owed 40K$ and dumped his whole operation, I'd say killing Supes is his motivation), MM is the only one with an inkling of 'loyalty' or 'friendship' to Butcher. Hughie is just caught up in it. But they've all got history with Vought (except maybe Frenchie. In the comic, Frenchie and The Female were the only ones with no personal revenge against Vaught/Supes backstory). In the comic: SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER Butcher's wife died to superhero shenanigans, Hughie lost his girlfriend in exactly the same way (basically), MM's entire family was fucked over by Vought. Frenchie just loves fighting and killing fuckers, and The Female is complicated... she was an accidental experiment that went awry, grew up caged and treated like an animal, went feral, and then escaped. She's insanely loyal to Frenchie who was the first person to show her genuine kindness and treat her like a human being. Of course int he comics Compound V is what turns people into superheroes... and every single one of The Boys is a super. Except Hughie who get's turned into a super post-haste.

I didn't realize it had been renewed. It will be interesting to see how they continue the story lines. There were plenty of unresolved threads. I loved the Expanse. Watched one season and then read all the books, which are really good also. After watching all three seasons, I found it held up well to a second viewing after it was picked up by amazon. I'm curious to see how it develops, now that it has a stable financial base and how faithfully it follows the books. There's plenty more there to work with.

Mmmmm, that twist. So incredibly juicy and unexpected. They've completely jumped rails from the comics and it's great.

I mean, blackly humorous I can see, but hilarious is a bridge too far. Supes burned out the eyes of the Babysitter while Dredd blew up her baby. That's a dark day.

It was sorta funny how surreal it was. Dredd loses his trump card so he blows himself up anyways, only to learn that his years avenging his wife's death was pointless.
Also is it going to follow the comic's storyline for who Noir is?
