I'm happy to see the new season for The Expanse up on amazon. There was a lengthy thread devoted to this on the old board but it died with that site.
It's pretty much following the trajectory of the books and they have continued to hire good actors, suggesting that Bezos' deep pockets have aided the show in maintaining quality. I've only seen the first two episodes, but I'm encouraged.

I couldn't help but watch it in one week-end, but it was very good. Could have been more Westerny on the planet. Amos is still awesmoe.

This of course goes with out saying, but it's good to reaffirm occasionally. I haven't watched this season yet, but then this is now my weekend, so I'll be digging in over the next day or two.

This season was kinda slow. It was OK. Setting up next season. Yup. Finally got around to watching it last week. I am not best pleased with Bobby's arc. They're fuckerin up my favorite book character! I'm also caught up on the books. And man... I have no idea how they plan to wrap up all those dangling threads and very major plots in one remaining book. At least not without the series ending in complete and utter tragedy (which I mean I'm okay with, but 'hope' is the underlying theme of the series).

I've enjoyed it so far, but I really gotta say I haven't been impressed by the massive character shifts to accomplish the plot. Holden is just a sock-puppet for the plot -- whatever he needs to believe to jog the plot forward is okay and everyone around him will get over it. Bleh, they could do better, here. And Bobby's shift in this last season is a bit abrupt -- everything for honor and Marines to small time criminal muscle in no time flat? I get the need to show Mars in a crisis of faith, but that's a big shift for that character and is hard to swallow.
On the plus side, love the creole, love the setting, and, despite the griping, usually enjoy the characters.
Amos is awesome, though. Im gut beltalowda, sase ke?

They changed Bobby's arc quite a lot from the books, and I'm fairly sure that the whole being-a-criminal thing was added in the show; IIRC, Bobby is simply not in that book at all. Or am I misremembering? I'm finding that I'm confusing the books and the TV series in my head a lot.

Holden is just a sock-puppet for the plot -- whatever he needs to believe to jog the plot forward is okay and everyone around him will get over it. Unfortunately that is the case with the next several books. Granted in the books they do a better job of giving Holden some internal reasoning and external talking himself into doing what the plot requires, but really, that has been Holden's job since jump, Plot Sock Puppet. This show is making me hate an actress and it totally isn't her fault. Aye. This book was the Amos 'break out' book, where in he really started to get his own personality and depth fleshed out. Next book is all pure Amos badassery, though we'll see how it manages it. In the book she spends like 3 chapters cleaning up her nephews mess vis-a-vis the small drug gang; in that she identifies the problem (the gang), alerts the problem that it is in over it's head and should back off her nephew's cock for it's own sake, and then eliminates the problem when it continues being a problem for her nephew. This 'twist' of the plots is so they could introduce the corruption in the docks (and theft of Marstech) which was the 5th and 6th books, and get her involved now, rather than trying to cram it all in later. Also for some stupid reason they wanted her to initially reject Avasarala instead of accept her offer when it was made and this gives her a 'good' reason to do both. Or some other stupid twaddle. They have fucked Bobbies character over so hard it's not the same person from the books and never has been.

Amos continues to be a badass, regardless of what is thrown at him. One can expect no less from a boy from Baltimore.

Nope, Season 5's still on for late this year/early next, though. Right. I was worried there for a minute that it was dropping but my feeds weren't updating... so this was just shingingbrow being later than me to the party. I can cope.
