So, Corona-chan. What are your thoughts on this new import good from China? Personally, as I've noted elsewhere, I'm ready. I always have a few months worth of dry goods, bog roll, etc. I've mastered the art of never leaving the house (except for work). I've been preparing for the 'shut-in quarantine' conditions all my life... But seriously, in today's market of propaganda first, feels second, actual news never, it's hard to pin down how serious this is. So back to unseriousness...  |

I already avoid people, wash my hands regularly etc. I also wash my cane handle regularly. Because eh, mobility device. If you use it to get up after you do your business, then it's dirty. It needs the same care as your hands do.
Other than taking basic precautions, there's not much you can do about it right now. Hell, we don't even have a vaccine ready. So, I've got to go to work, get food, pay bills. Huddling in my home is not an option.

On topic, in the past week I've gone from thinking, "this is gonna suck economically, and a few Asians are gonna die" to "a lot of everyone is gonna die, and this is gonna really suck economically".
400-2,300 thousand Americans dead over the next year, year and a half. Broad range, but that's the lower and upper estimates I've seen that seem credible. I'm particularly worried because my parents are boomers and my uncle is rather disabled. Luckily it seems kids are least likely to die, but even healthy adults are at risk.

Why is this thread in this cesspool of a sub? Because I expected it to devolve into ignorant political hot-takes a lot faster than it is. For example: Unfortunately the corona virus won't wipe out the boomers fast enough to get Bernie elected... The advantage that seniors have (that we middleageders don't have) is most of them can begin practicing social distancing now. Stock up on necessary things (backstock for four months of shut-in living if required), stop going out, etc. Us middle-aged folk still have to work. |
