Actually, looking at that graph, we're doing worse than most. Though I suspect if you graph it by state it would be different. But that is the point. That's how the response has been, state by state. The federal response has been lackluster and often at odds with the state response. That is going to cause more problems as time goes on. The Federal government has no authority to close anything. Your argument betrays a fundamental misunderstanding of how federalism works. Trump's response has been to recommend good choices, but he cannot force the states to adopt them. Those states that have are doing well. Blaming Trump for the failure of authority vested in Governors is just ignorant. I mean, you can't both love sanctuary states and municipalities AND complain that Trump isn't enforcing a Federal solution on the states. Feneralism doesn't have an on/off switch for your pet issues. There are coordinating things that the federal government COULD be doing. Let's assume that, as you say, closing things is outside the power of the federal government. But take the need for hospital supplies for example. With each state buying what they can, those supplies aren't going where they are most needed. The federal government could purchase those things and divvy them up as they are needed. It does put in an additional layer of bureaucracy, but the supplies would actually get where they need to go. Right now, the federal government has told states to buy the stuff they need, but it is also buying it. Meaning that they are competing for the same things, prices are going up, and the supplies aren't getting where they're needed. I'm not sure I agree that, in a national emergency situation such as a pandemic, the federal government doesn't have the power to close things. In all honesty, I expect the federal government to do exactly that in this kind of emergency situation. The response should be coordinated from the federal level, not haphazard on the state level like is happening now.

Meaning that they are competing for the same things, prices are going up, and the supplies aren't getting where they're needed. So... the Fed is buying supplies to divy it up as needed, but because they are doing what you want it's creating a problem and you're angry the Fed is doing exactly what you want? This ORANGEMANBAD syndrome you've got is serious. You might want to see a specialist about it. And no, Trump never said "Hey states, buy your own stuff, we won't help". He said "we will give what help we can, but it would be faster and more efficient if you went outside the system where you can and do for yourselves and we'll sort out recompensing you later."

They're not. Also, by not buying at the federal level and divvying things out, the states are competing with each other, causing unnecessary problems. It's not an "ORANGEMANBAD" thing so much as a "This is a clusterfuck that needs coordinating" thing.

If you notice, every crisis that Trump has been apart of, he's fucked it up. From hurricane response to this. He can't handle long term planning or planning in general.

You don't really understand epidemiology, do you? Hold this space for two weeks, and come back to it - let's say April 8th. I predict 5000 US deaths by that time.
Whatever gave you cause to think I don't understand epidemiology? My point isn't that the response has been perfect but that it's been better than any other Western nation. Don't forget that when Trump put the early travel ban in place, there were widespread accusations of racism in the media and abroad. I expect this to be bad. 50k deaths, though, would be a success story. Given a predicted penetration of just 1% of population, that's 50k from 3 million, or 1.7%. I hope we're that well off. The Hong Kong University says that they've analyzed the data and put the death rate at 1.4%. They are basically China, though, so you have to take that with more than a grain of salt.

That's some rightwing propaganda shit.. The Spanish flu, for example is from the US. Every report conclusively declaring the Spanish Flu couldn't have come from China is a chinese medical report. This is of course suspect.

Nobody really knows where the Spanish flu originated from. Spain was just the first country to report it. It's easily googleable.

Genetic evidence points to a north american origin.

Day 5. I went for a walk, for fresh air, exercise and the fact I was going stir-crazy. I went alone of course and kept social distancing in mind. It was nice.

Genetic evidence points to a north american origin. Was this report from a Chinese medical journal, or something credible?
