All I ever wrote was that genetic evidence points to a North American origin. Again, I don't think you understand the word genetic. No viruses were genetically identified in this paper. Markers in people who were infected with an influenza from the H1 family were identified, but again, that is large family of viruses. Any claim this paper is definitive is a strong claim, even the paper doesn't make that claim. However, I understand that right now questioning the origin of the Spanish Flu is of prime importance as per your thought leaders in the progressive blogger sphere. No, I didn't. I posted a meme. I have said I blame the French. I get that you don't understand how words work seeing as you you completely misinterpreted the paper you're citing, but come one, that was like only 5 posts up. Akshually it was from so nogoodnick Libertarians I'm hanging out with. I know, picking up all sorts of filthy habits from their like... But sure, let's accept this... so the Spanish Flu isn't chinese ( I can more than accept a mild error rate in a meme)... does that substantively change the meaning or discourse of the meme?

Aside from being beneficial to racists, why is it important that China is responsable for various diseases?

It could have multiple points of origin. I mean, it originated in birds. Birds migrate. I'm just guessing/pointing it out. It would still only originate in one of those spots and migrate to the other.

Yes, but when Trump is doing it, he's trying to distract from his own actions, responsibilities and lack there-of regarding the Covid-19 crisis. It's basically a dog-whistle for his base.

It's basically a dog-whistle for his base. And what is it a "dog whistle" for? What is the secret message Trump is trying to convey to his "base" by saying "China Virus"? Could it be, "this virus originated in China"?

Because the name of the virus is Covid-19. Calling it the Chinese virus or the Wuhan virus stokes hatred against Asians in general It creates an us vs. them mindset. Yes, we all know it came from China. There is no need to rub people's faces in it.It's juvenile and counter-productive. Which is par for Trump's course.
Just because it's been done in the past, does not make it right or wise to do so. Let's call it by it's actual name Covid-19. It's not hard.

That's just false. Calling it the Wuhan Virus doesn't stoke hatred against asians anymore than the calling wildfires by the location that they start stokes hatred against the residents there. Racists will hate, regardless of illness names. The attacks against asians would have happened anyway, because as you note, "Yes, we all know it came from China."

You just don't get it do you? Le sigh. Yes, I do. Haters will hate, regardless of anything that Trump says or does. They didn't go out and beat up Asians due to his words. It's you who does not "get it."

But when Trump uses it as a dog-whistle like he does, he legitimizes what they do in their minds. It empowers them. It's not a good thing. As the President of the United States, he should not be doing that sort of thing. He represents everyone in the US, not just a racist subset of people.

So... you think he's being "racist" when he says "Chinese Virus" but that CNN isn't being racist when they say "Wuhan Virus"? Is that your contention? In other words, is it bad only when ORANGEBADMAN does it?
