Not really a part of the upcoming Patriot Act push, but it's part of the 'war on your privacy", so I'm just gonna leaave this here for later... Information Wants To Be Free

Privacy? Online? I laugh. It has nothing to do with being online but you go on and revel in your ignorance.

It's part of it. But in this day and age, you have no privacy. Digital or otherwise.

It's part of it. But in this day and age, you have no privacy. Digital or otherwise. It's a Fourth Amendment issue you dumbass. We are guaranteed certain rights and dipshits like you are all, "No it's okay if the government is all up in my business 24/7, that's okay, I don't care". But I'll bet if CNN framed it as "OH NOES! The evil ORNAGEBAGMAN has altered the way the DoD can spy on citizens!11! They don't need warrants now to track US Citizens!1!!1" you'd be screeching right now.

Actually, it started with the Republicans. If you remember, Bush is the one who signed it. Generally speaking, in the last 20 years, Republicans are the ones who erode our rights all in the name of "security" and "safety" and "religious freedum". Hell even now, Republicans are trying to roll back voting rights like mail in voting, absentee voting and such. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patriot_ActMy business is pretty dull and nerdy by any standards. I'd bore the fuckers to death if they monitored me personally.
Besides, if you have a smart phone? You're being tracked.
Modern car? You're being tracked.
Those devices that monitor your driving you get from insurance companies? You're being tracked.
Siri and Alexa? You're being tracked.
Fuck all Nail Bunny, you're being tracked whether or not it's big business or the gov'ment. Privacy is sadly an illusion in this day and age. Thanks to Republicans.
Which is one of the many reasons why I don't vote Republican. They are the party of Satan dressed up in pretty colors. So if you don't want your rights, vote Republican. They're more than happy to take them away. All the while selling you a pack of lies to make you look in the other direction.

It doesn't matter who "started" it. Both sides voted for it overwhelmingly and the Democrats renewed it when it was their watch. Both parties are equally guilty in removing our rights, and dipshits like you who are like, "But I'm okay since I don't do anything, go ahead and take away my rights!" are even worse.

Actually, it started with the Republicans. And it's being expanded upon, right now, by Joe "Totally a Democrat we pinky swear" Biden. Do you not pay the fuck attention to what is happening? To what is being done? If the Republicans made slavery legal again for 10 years of someone's life for owing a debt (indentured servitude strikes again), would it be okay for the Dems to expand it to 11 years because "LOL teh Repubs started it!"? Only if you turn on tracking and geolocating, or keep your phone physically turned on. Which I don't. Don't have one of those. 1, installing one of those violates your dealership warranty, 2 I don't have one of those. Don't have those. Don't have a 'smart' tv either. And that's all beside the point you absolute dumbass, this is about circumventing warrants to gain information about people they are investigating. You know, that whole "illegal search and seizure" clause? Or do you think it's okay for no knock warrants, FISA warrants (thanks for that Democrats!), Obama trying to force Apple to install backdoors in iPhones, and other "let's get around citizen's rights" bullshittery is okay? If so, we are fundamentally at odds.

Those pesky little 4th and 5th amendments are so annoying when her godking Burden is illegally occupying the oval office, aren't they...

Serious 3cat, you are the last person to comment on another person's intelligence. I see the word salad you post. Not to mention, you supported a guy that sent his supporters to kill congress people and his own vice president. So STFU.
As for the Patriot act, there's not much we can do about it. Once you give the government power, it's very hard to take it away. I'm not saying I like it very much, but the reality of the situation is, we're stuck with it.

If the Republicans made slavery legal again for 10 years of someone's life for owing a debt (indentured servitude strikes again), would it be okay for the Dems to expand it to 11 years because "LOL teh Repubs started it!"? Unlikely for a few reasons (including but not limited to): - Democrats seem less inclined to support the prison industrial complex.
- Isn't there a higher percentage of the poor (minorities) that traditionally votes Democrat? Although some inmates may still be able to vote, most do not while incarcerated (disfranchisement).
- A prisoner is counted where they are incarcerated, not where they lived prior to incarceration when it comes to census and consequently congressional reapportionment and gerrymandering on the state level (large population with low voter turnout). Traditionally this has not favored the Left, probably due to the former reasons provided.
Only if you turn on tracking and geolocating, or keep your phone physically turned on. Which I don't. Phones provided by the government Lifeline (and other budget-level phones) have been found to have a higher rate Chinese malware preinstalled. It is tracking you the moment you turn on the phone anyway. Aside from cheaper components, why do you think those phones were so cheap? Now whether those who deployed such devices knew or even suspected such prior to deployment is under debate. If you also don't have a car, it is impossible to be tracked that way. Unfortunately, the ratio of modern cars (subject to tracking) to older cars (without the tracking tech) is growing in favor of modern cars as cars break down and a replaced by more modern ones. 1, installing one of those violates your dealership warranty, 2 I don't have one of those. A dealership-specific warranty? Does this also include the manufacturer's warranty as well? I haven't found anything to support this claim. Mind providing an example? Thanks.
As for insurance policies utilizing vehicle monitoring usage to determine pricing, a driver may save some money in the short term, but at what cost in the long run? Driving performance isn't based on an absolute scale, but a dynamic one that is relative to other drivers. Even if everyone drives "safely", some drivers will experience higher rates due to algorithms determining they are not "as safe" as others. Insurance providers use this data to help maximize rates.
Don't have those. Don't have a 'smart' tv either. Siri, Alexa, and IoT (including Nest) in general are still relatively easy to avoid. However, like automobiles, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find new televisions that are not "smart". Politics on both sides over the past few decades have favored ease of data collection in regards to "security". The less we focus on "who is more at fault", the easier it will be to address the issue itself. Everyone need to work together on this!
Society seems more that willing to trade privacy away for "free" products and services (convience) that end up being more expensive in the long run.
With enough information of a given individual, it is likely those that have the information know more about the subject (and their behavior) than the subject themselves. Marketing today is an example of how concerning this truly is.

The less we focus on "who is more at fault", the easier it will be to address the issue itself. Everyone need to work together on this! I don't care who's doing it, however, right now, it's a Dem and all the Lefties are going "Teehee, it's okay when Daddy Government takes away our rights and privacy as long their Blue when they do." 1) It was a hyperbolic 'what if' to show that 'just because team A crates something bad you shouldn't pretend it's okay when team B increases that badness", and 2) that's total bullshit. Biden and the Clintons created the prison-industrial complex. But that's a discussion for a different thread, this about Biden's continued erasure of our right to privacy and freedom from unjust search and seizure.

The Patriot act is due for renewal in March. There hasn't even been a vote on it yet, so we don't know which way Congress and the President will swing on this. So right now, you're pointing fingers and yelling before anything has been done about it yet.
Biden signed a EO phasing out private prisons for federal inmates.
