Mat's the odd man out here (Rand is...not from the same little village as the rest of them)
Also, it's a faux-enlightment village, not medieval.

It's medieval. Longbows and pikes and absolute monarchs. And Egwene is south asian, looks just as out of place as Matt. The casting is a joke.

Diversity hires always are. And changing to gears to something actually good: WTF! No one here thought to tell me The Tick (2016) Season 2 came out in April? WTF?

Jordan is on record as saying "around 1600-1700, minus guns". Absolute monarchs is *not* medieval, that's an enlightment concept. There's no trace of feudalism. The fashion is clearly renaissance/enlightment, not medieval. There are printing presses all over the place and people are literate in general. The wars of the 17th century was fought with pike and muskets, and without muskets you get longbows (and crossbows?) Also, the people of the two rivers are noted as a bit on the short side, and dark (although not as short as the dwarves of Caihrien).

Absolute monarchy is an ancient idea. I'll give you that the series is more 17th century than 14th, but it's still technologically very primitive. The Two Rivers people aren't short. Egwene is, but Mat is average height and Perrin is taller than average. Oh and regarding the dwarves of Caihrien, Moiraine is played by a 5'9" blonde woman. Oh and she's English. Most of the cast is randomly English, for no reason other than "fantasy = England" I guess. They're making zero effort to capture the actual diversity in the books, and instead inserting random, superficial diversity.

17th century is not at all medieval.
edit: the Enlightenment is noted as starting either when Newton published the Principia Mathematica in 1689, while French historians generally date the start to the reign of Louis XV in 1715. Given that Jordan said "1700" as his target year for inspiration Enlightenment is just as good a term as any other. And medieval it is not.

So I finally got around to watching Glass.
It's good. Not getting where people* critics are having problems with it, as I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a nice ending tot eh trilogy and leaves things open for an expansion into that universe, that I suspect will never materialize (it could be realized quite well in actual comic book form though).
* Because in this day and age it's clear critics aren't there to actually review movies with an eye as to what makes them enjoyable, but some other esoteric/political nonsense. The critics score is like 37%, whereas the audience score is 70%... which is about what I'd rate it at.

Things I've watched recently (last monthish):
The Tick Season 2! Even better than season one! And they clearly leave us with hooks for season 3 and hint that my favorite villain will be in it, Susan!
Infinity Train. Mehdiocre. Way too much tell, not show. Fine for children of indiscriminate tastes and middling IQs.
Finally finished watching the most recent season of People of Earth, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and The Orville. They we're good. Not as happy as I could have been with the last few moments of The Orville, but I can understand why they did what they did.
Still on the docket: Stranger Things season 3, True Detective season 3, American Gods season 2, and more shows I haven't even started than you can shake a stick at...
As for The Dark Crystal Age of Resistance... the insufferable tell don't show, fucking opening narrator, and childishness of it turned me off within 15 minutes. Does it get better?
And was it just me, or did their muppet technology degrade? Like I don't remember the original The Dark Crystal looking that shitty... but then I also haven't seen that movie in over 30 years so ...

It's just as shitty as the original (which doesn't hold up well). I can't even start.
Speaking of more bad -- Another Life on Netflix is fucking terrible. But, well acted for the most part, so somewhat watchable. It does the absolute worst bits of stupid in space -- all of the Star Trek "why the fuck are we even out here this ship and our tech is so dangerous and we keep doing stupid things" but somehow worse.

Farscape muppets still look pretty good, I think.
