It really depends on how and when the democrats get their shit together. If they focus on the economy, gas prices, food shortages (of whatever kind) and abortion, they can probably eke out a win, because right now, republicans really don't have a platform, other than what Trump is currently stomping his feet about. Which can be anything from windmills to toilets.
So it's a shot in the dark on if it will galvanize people really.

I'm not talking about safeguards wrt the athletics organizations. To even begin HRT takes a long time, and no psychiatrist is going to approve HRT for someone who is transitioning for that reason. No, look at her performance, not her rankings. In nearly 3 years of HRT, she lost something like 10-15 seconds on her times. Men in that same age period don't slow down. They speed up. You stupid fuckin' cunt... It's not how long it takes for a bonesaw to prescribe hormones that matters. It's only 12 months from when you start actually taking them that you have to wait to compete with biological women. Yeah, and you're not going to fucking go on HRT unless you actually ARE trans. But now we're delving into areas of "what is a mental illness", and I'm defining it as "behavior that is detrimental to the individual and the species" (and then we have define "detrimental"...). So... most of us probably have a few traits that would qualify. Dysphoria definitely is (and many cases isn't harmless to the individual), but aside from "identity reassignment", I'm not sure it's treatable, and I'm not sure it's even treatable then. We've really only started to uncover the very tippiest point of the iceberg that is treating this illness, and I'm not sure which direction is best to go, if I'm going to be completely honest. As a Transhumanist, I'm all for "Go for it! Be whatever your inner you wants to be right now!" But, I recognize I'm a crazy person asking to be treated in the manner I'd find most pleasing to my illness (I want to be so digital I can taste the bare metal of the system), which... well frankly, which might be the wrong direction. Like, if we eventually figure out how to rewire brains... should we? On one hand, "OH HELLS YEAH! Like if that's what the person wants, man." On the other hand, "That is a crazy person, we should remove their crazy and make them sane" is a very valid argument. It's definitely a conundrum that has worrying implications. † Whole host of things I think are aberrant but harmless, so, eh, let them go have fun. If they want to correct themselves back to 'baseline', I'm definitely not going to stand in their way, but if they want to go screw whatever willing adult human‡ partner they can find? Again, go have fun, just don't get that fun on me, or anywhere near me, you odious bags of disgusting leaking fluids. ‡ If we ever meet aliens (or create non-enslaved AI or uplifted animals or whatever) who have similar concepts of individual agency and empowerment, then I'll revise my "human" requirement. |
