Political scientist don't debate about "Classical Liberalism" vs. "New Liberalism" just for the helluvit. Scholars not debating just for the helluvit? You must live south of Akron, Ohio. Glad you're finally catching up and understand Republicans are promoting an agenda influenced by liberal ideology in this case: the free market of realities ideas. Keep at it and you'll add something constructive to the conversation at some point. Maybe.

I agree, The American Liberal party is also shifting to the right. I... what? The Left keeps going further left. The Right keeps being drug left, as is what usually happens as last years liberal ideas become tradition. Authoritarianism is neither left nor right and is very much both Left and Right.

Trump and Bill Clinton are interchangeable, at least position-wise. The Overton window has definitely slid leftwards. I now await the outrage absent any actual analysis because I dared say the above.

The Overton window has been sliding "Left" - i.e. away from established conservative mores, whatever they might currently be - since the Enlightenment.
The principle difference between Trump and any other politician is that most others have the wherewithal to pretend that they aren't malignant narcissists, and to maintain the polite fiction of civility. Politicians and other people who seek to accrue and broker power are almost definitionally sociopathic, but we need certain agreed fictions for society to function smoothly.

... we need certain agreed fictions for society to function smoothly. Do we? Or would the trains run even more smoothly if everyone stopped lying and just accepted what can't be fixed and fought to fix what could, instead of lying about can and can't get done in order to get what they prefer fixed over what needs to be fixed.

Right, I'm sure they'll all stop lying now, and agree on what they need as opposed to what they prefer.
I'll take your pie-in-the-sky, and raise you a crème brûlée amid the firmament.

Right, I'm sure they'll all stop lying now, and agree on what they need as opposed to what they prefer. I never said they would. I said, "We don't need the 'polite' fiction". In fact, the 'agreed upon fictions' are only making things worse. It's time to burn it all down and start fresh from the ashes.

Agreed-upon fictions are all that we have.
Why? To invent a new set of agreed-upon fictions?
