Here's a hint: The British empire was imperialist, 1920s and 30s Italy was fascist. Or look at it like this: State enforced collectivism is necessary for pure Socialism, Anarcho-freedom is necessary for pure Communism, The Invisible Hand of The Free Market TM is necessary for pure Capitalism. Eternal war is not required for Fascism. You just think it is because the only two examples of fascism went down in flames in the largest war in history and bled their countries dry in the attempt to not die ignobly. I know what bothers me about it, but I wonder if other can actually lay out what they think the unethical action is with actual references. Mostly because I don't think they've bothered to read the documents and instead are just parroting talking points.

For me, the problem is that he specifically asked for a favor from a foreign leader to investigate his political opponent. Typically, he hadn't actually looked all that close to what was going on, and didn't realize that many Ukrainians were grateful that the US put in enough additional pressure to get the guy out. And further that the investigation had already stopped by that point. And he made it clear that he wouldn't talk to the Ukrainian president without this item being on the agenda. And, the week before the call, he stopped a significant amount of military aid to the Ukraine. Who is our ally, and is in the middle of a fight against Russian proxies. So, he was endangering an ally. He never specifically mentioned the aid, so it's only an assumption that he stopped the aid to pressure Ukraine to do what Trump wanted. But the reasoning as to why the aid was halted has changed over time, and both reasons are pretty spurious. I haven't read the whistleblower's complaint yet, but there are some things there that I have read about that are also disturbing, quite aside from Ukraine. Trump apparently put the transcript of the call with the Ukrainian president into a computer that is for codename level secret information. Where only national security documents should be stored. And also, that wasn't the only political document that was stored there. The other such documents weren't listed, and it isn't known if those documents are still stored there. But doing so has compromised that computer, because Congress is going to ask for those documents. Which is going to cause serious problems. |
